The Artistry of light, reflection & hidden hues

Starting at $75 on Kickstarter

A contemplative study of water as a mirror and canvas—capturing the changing colors of sky, foliage, and landscape.

About The Color of Water

The Color of Water is a Kickstarter Project to fund the finest, most insightful book project of my 35-year career in nature photography.

To create The Color of Water, I have gathered 35 years of my finest photographs of water, illuminating my personal obsession with the reflections of nature and its hidden hues. Crafted as a contemplation on fine art nature photography, The Color of Water will be a guide for photography enthusiasts, inviting them to engage with a journey into the luminous spaces where reflection and imagination meet.

The photographs in The Color of Water will focus on the ability of water to reinterpret the natural world, showing waterscapes in constant motion, alive with shifting currents of color and texture. Each reflection tells its own story, shaped by angle of view, season, shutter speed, and the dance of light across the surface. These images blur the boundary between photography and abstraction, offering glimpses into a world that exists for only a heartbeat before it changes again.

Just as I’ve done for over 30 years as a photography instructor, I will share the technical and artistic structure to each image, without secrets. Chapter introductions and extended captions will reveal how photographers can build their own creative visualizations of water and its surroundings. Camera settings and post-processing notes will reveal the influences on character and the emotional impact of each scene.

Over 150 pages (TBD), The Color of Water will share more than 100 photographs on 10″ x 10″ pages, sometimes sharing panoramic crops as two-page spreads, all printed on heavy-weight, acid-free, archival paper in glorious four-color printing from a highly respected fine art printing press.

The Color of Water celebrates water as both my subject and my collaborator, helping me to capture the essence of nature through its fluid reinterpretations. Every photograph becomes a meditation on impermanence, beauty, and the wonder of seeing the familiar made new again and again.
