Photo of the Day

After NANPA we headed to the gulf coast to find a mid way place to stay so that we could get to Bob Singh’s office, then to Clyde Butcher’s studio, but the weather got in the way. We’re decided to stay in Venice, then saw that the weather is going to be pretty rough (SNOW!!) back home (Baltimore/DC area). We made a decision to stop by Singh Ray for a couple of hours then to drive directly home, about 17 hours. We’ve done it before. At the end of a 2 1/2 month road trip, we were so anxious to get home that we drove directly home, non stop, from Santa Fe!

In the mean time, I pulled up this Photo of the Day from Lighthouse Cove in Cape May, NJ. We need a few more people in workshop in May for this to “go,” however, our November workshop there has been full for a while. The moving wispy clouds and gently rolling waves into the rocky beach made this scene a prime choice for a 4 minute exposure. Also, the low sunset faces directly into the beach, warmly lighting up the rocks and adding a pinkish glow to the smoothed out ocean waves.

We’re getting out of here shortly to find some cool infrared situations before heading up to Arcadia…

More later, but might miss a day since we’ll be on the road…

Thanks for visiting and we’ll see you online!

The rocks shifted to a different location (nicer!) after Sandy.

  2. Great shot, Tony. I know the spot well but have never seen it look like that.

    Fantastic image Tony;)

Stephen, if you want extremely long exposures, you’ll need to get fixed nds. I use the 5 and 10 stop MorSlo filters.

  6. Terrific long exposure and early dawn (I assume) pastel colors Tony. Do you happen to recall about how long an exposure you may have used for this image? Been practicing with my Singh-Ray Vari-ND Duo to capture various duration long exposure images of the Chesapeake.

    Hi Tony,

Sorry, man, I’ll be in Ireland with Peter Cox during your Cape May gig. Just returned this morning (1 am) from New Zealand and it was fun, but Iceland is much closer with nearly as incredible scenery!

    Thx a lot, Rachel!

Thx Roger, but, it’s the Cape May lighthouse.

I opened the blog, looked at the picture and said to myself: “I have lived in Florida all my life, I know the coastal areas and darn near every lighthouse and I have never seen THAT!!” Naturally, you deprived us of another good Florida shot and showed me a place I haven’t ever been and want to get to! I’ll make it some day – thanks for the weather report and the wonderful image.
