Badlands post workshop #1

September 13th, 2012

We just finished our first of two workshops in Badlands National Park, South Dakota, one of our favorite locations. We had a small, but very talented group who created a great body of work. With our small, but cogent group, Sue and I were able to shoot along with everyone, but as always, being instantly available for assistance in the field. We had a surprisingly wide variety of  subject material, however, aside from big white puffy clouds, no water. If we had time, we would photograph waterfalls in Spearfish canyon, which is two hours away. Maybe next year. Originally, we decided to conduct workshops here every other year, but we like it here so much that we modified our plans and will be returning next year for at least one workshop in September. Our 2013 workshop schedule will be posted when the smoke clears, hopefully, in a month or so. Email susan@tonysweet.com  if you want to be put on our workshop/newsletter mailing list.

Here’s an image gallery from our workshop (and a few pre-wkshop). We were lucky to have varied weather, although I’m looking forward to some rain in the coming week, which will saturate the red color bands on the teepees and the crazy color in the yellow mounds.

A wide variety of techniques (in camera and software optimizations) were used. Please feel free to drop in a comment
if you have any questions.

The next show starts on Saturday!

Thanks for visiting and we’ll see you online!

That session was very intense; I learned a lot. Tony, Susan and the other participants were all really inspiring. I hope that the next workshop is just as much fun. By the way, where are the outhouse light painting shots?

    Thx, Stan!
Definitely a great group and great time, Stan! Thanks very much for joining us!

  4. It all looks so familiar :) Great stuff, Tony! Only things missing are at least 1 buffalo shot and light painted milky way. Hope you have as much fun on the next workshop as we did on the last one. I’m still rehashing everything in my mind — it’s a bit of a blur, we did so much. Say Hi to Sue.

Fantastic collection of work and it looks like you had a great time. Especially like the newest of the old cars and long exposures. Thanks for sharing.
